Bombay Brasserie – Orion Mall – Rajajinagar

During one of our lunch breaks, we wanted to try Myanmese food, but the restaurant did not serve beer, which was something my colleague needed, so we went next door to Bombay Brasserie

With 11 outlets across India, Bombay Brasserie aims to serve dishes which represent different regions of India by using localised spices and ingredients to re-create familiar favourites with a twist or brand new flavours to surprise the palate

The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor seating. The indoor seating is divided between traditional dining tables and the bar area, with additional high tables available for customers seeking only snacks and drinks in the evening. The moment you enter the interiors, you will be attracted to the highlight wall, which is a huge shelf with a display of different wooden sculptures of people across cultures, regions, and traditions

First up, we had the Kurkuri Gobi, which is crispy cauliflower tossed in tamarind peanut sauce and the crunch of red chilli peppers. The sauce gave a nice tangy flavour to the crispy cauliflower, while the chilli and peanuts deepened the taste with a nutty, earthy flavour. This is a great bar snack without being overly spicy

Next was the Himalayan mushrooms, which were stuffed and grilled Tandoori-style and served with a parsley dip and served with raw onions. I wasn’t a fan, as the dish wasn’t great in texture, and the mushroom was soft rather than crunchy. Flavour-wise, the mushroom was savoury and not spicy, and the dip gives it a fresh minty flavour

Next is one of their popular dish, which is the Kashmiri Naan Kebab made of minced lamb infused with the flavours of Kebab Chimi from Kashmir, served with saffron brushed naan and served with a Kashmiri-inspired creamy yoghurt dip. This dish was interesting in the way it was served. The lamb meat did not have a strong flavour, which paired well with the yoghurt sauce and naan. The spice flavour of the lamb meat was quite strong, which is not really my preferred kind of dish

For mains, I ordered the chicken tikka butter masala together with plain and garlic naan, which has a thick creamy consistency and works well when dipping the naan into the sauce. The chicken was tender, even though it was pre-charred before cooking with the butter masala. The dish was not overly spicy and was also great with rice. Due to the thick sauce, it was very filling and almost impossible to finish by a single person.

Last but not least, we had another popular dish, the mutton boti briyani, which is lamb and rice cooked in a dum with poti masala and covered with a naan dough. The rice was fragrant when we opened up the dough, and the mutton meat was also tender and well-spiced. There was a slight mutton flavour, which is not easily acceptable to some diners who don’t eat mutton much. Personally, the mutton flavour was too strong for me, so I only tried a bite, but those who love mutton will probably like this dish much more than me

Overall, the concept of the restaurant was interesting, and their menu is also great as it offers a variety of dishes with different flavours from different regions in India. For those who love authentic Indian food with a modern twist, they would love the options here. Unfortunately, my gastric was weak after a few days in India, and some of the spicier dishes did not sit well. I would have enjoyed the meal here better in good condition
