Vivanta Bengaluru, Residency Road

As part of my business trip, we also visited Bengaluru, which is the centre of India’s high-tech industry and is usually referred to as India’s Silicon Valley. While there are also some historic sights, most travellers to Bengaluru are for business, thus the many options of business hotels available

I stayed at the Vivanta, which is a 5-star local Indian hotel chain with a perfect location. Located on Residency Road, which is part of the Central Business District, the hotel is a small walk to many important business buildings as well as restaurants and eateries. Just opposite to the Samsung Opera House, which is a 100-year-old building, you are 5 minutes away from International cuisines like Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Western food

The hotel lobby was spacious and brightly lit with a lounge and bar as well as the restaurant on the first floor. The check-in counter is small with only 2 counters open for service, so it can take a while for the check-in process. We were also served welcome drinks when we arrived, and it took about 15 minutes for us to get our room cards

The corridors in the rooms were also brightly lit and kept clean with no musky smells. There were constantly staff vacuuming and cleaning the area when I walked past

While the room is not fully carpeted, the wooden floor boards and the entire colour of the furnishings used were a lot more pleasant and cosy compared to the other hotel in the same trip: Read here. The bed is a full king-size bed and is quite firm, while the pillows are still flat. I managed to pile a few of them together for a proper height. There is a work desk area as well as an armchair for chilling, with a small coffee table. The bathroom size is medium, where the size of the toilet seat is tighter, so it can be a bit small for people with a bigger frame. I could rest my arm on the basin top while sitting. Basic amenities are provided

The restaurant is located on the first floor of the hotel, and the space is quite spacious with both outdoor and indoor seating. The breakfast buffet spread is quite varied, with a good split of International cuisine and local Indian fare. The service is also prompt and polite, but the serving time took a little longer

The buffet breakfast spread was quite good, with varied items from the cold menu like salads and cold cuts to hot food like bacon, baked beans, sausages and scrambled eggs. They also have a self-service bread and pastries station for customers to enjoy hot bread. They also have cook-to-order stations for eggs, Indian breakfasts like Dosa, Poori, Paratha, and Western favourites, waffles and pancakes

I try not to eat too much during breakfast, especially on work trips, so I usually opt for eggs and a filling item, such as toast, noodles, soup, or porridge. On my last day, when I had more time, I tried the baked goods, and they were pretty decent and on point for flavour and taste. I like that there were many options which were non-spicy and yet very authentic Indian flavours for those who like a local breakfast

I also had dinner at the restaurant a couple of times, and the Western dishes were nicely cooked and presented and at a reasonable price for a hotel restaurant. I was craving for soup and had the green pea soup, which was light and earthy with a strong pea flavour, which I like, and the shaved nuts gave it a light nutty fragrance. The fish was flaky and soft with a nice texture, and paired well with the cream sauce

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Vivanta Bengaluru with great service, a neat and clean room, as well as great food in the middle of the action. With nice restaurants within walking distance, it is a good location for any business trip
