Oyatt Kkot Cafe

We chanced upon this cafe purely because we were wandering around Ikseondong looking for a dinner place which would speak to our stomachs. After wandering for 10 minutes, we realised we were more attracted to getting something sweet and cold instead of hot and savoury as we were still stuffed from our previous snacks

Located at the end of one of the alleys in Ikseondong, we were first attracted by the huge posters hanging outside the Hanok. The grapefruit bingsu and strawberry tart were calling out to me and my sweating face was propelling us to go into the Hanok

Just like other Hanok, the moment you enter, you will see the big courtyard which is decorated with sand and pebbles for customers to go around and take pictures. During colder months, I believe customers can also choose to sit in the courtyard on benches near the glass windows where small tables are placed. The interior is quite a tight squeeze with the cafe trying to fit in as many tables and chairs as possible to fit more customers. The style is quite eclectic as there is not a uniform look for the furniture

The first item we made sure to order was the grapefruit bingsu as it is so pretty to look at and take pictures. The bowl of bingsu is piled high with many pieces of juicy grapefruit, it was not easy to eat as we had to take out the pieces of fruit to eat before we could scoop up the ice. The ice is finely ground like most of the bingsu in Korea and has a sweet taste to it. The grapefruit slices helped to balance out the sweetness with the natural tangy flavours. When combined, it is a very refreshing dessert perfect for summer

The next item we ordered was a highly recommended menu; the berry croffle which was topped with citrus fruits and banana with sweet cream. The item takes quite some time as they are made on order. We were first served the drinks and bingsu and waited another 10 minutes before the Croffle was ready. All items are self-service and all customers are given a buzzer after order and payment is made. The Croffle was buttery and crispy but light and airy inside which is quite well done. The fruits added a layer of acidity to balance out the sweetness of the cream and Croffle itself

For drinks, we ordered grapefruit tea to wash down all the sweet desserts. I like the fact that the drink was not too sweet and perfect as a thirst-quencher. The grapefruit flavour was strong but not too sour for the palate

Overall, I really loved the desserts at Oyatt Kkot Cafe, especially the fresh fruits which gave the different desserts a refreshing finish. My only complaint is that the cafe is too popular so it is really crowded and noisy to stay long enough to chill. It might be better when the courtyard area is available for sitting but I would not mind returning to the cafe just to eat some of their desserts
