Grand Millennium Hotel Kuala Lumpur

One of the favourite hotels in Kuala Lumpur is the Grand Millenium due to its strategic location on the main Bukit Bintang road and just next to the huge shopping mall Pavillion. Before the pandemic, I only stayed at the Grand Millennium once for a business trip as the room rates per night were about SGD 250 to SGD 300 and out of my leisure trip budget

Due to the pandemic and fewer tourists visiting, the room rates under SGD 100 per night were really attractive so I quickly made a booking for a short KL getaway trip. My trip was in March this year and the rate as of today has risen to approximately SGD 150 per night which is still reasonable for its location

The driveway was huge and spacious so bigger vehicles has no issues stopping right in front of the lobby. This driveway is extremely busy as many cars will choose to drop off their customers at this driveway even if they are going to the nearby buildings. The moment you get off your vehicle, a group of staff will approach immediately to help with your luggage and there is also always a staff opening doors to their guest

The hotel lobby is grand and extensive with a monumental chandelier and floral centerpiece capturing your eyeballs the moment you step in. Beyond the marbled centre area, are plush seating sofas for guests to sit and rest

Beyond the sofas are the counters for check-ins and concierge services and there is also a locker room between the counters for guests who check out but need storage for their luggage. For those with wheelchairs, there is a ramp at the side of the entrance lobby to reach this part of the lobby which is the same level as the lifts to the room. Check-in timing is documented at 3pm but the staff was very nice to make a concession for us the moment there was a room ready at 2pm

The room was definitely bigger than most deluxe rooms with ample space for me to park the wheelchair as well as 2 medium size luggage and still have floor space to walk around. There is a desk for guests to work or place their items as well as a lounging sofa near the ceiling-to-floor window. Although the room is quite dated in its furnishings, they are mostly well-maintained and kept clean. You can tell the age of the tables and wallpaper but they are still in working condition. The bed is slightly too soft for my personal preference and I needed 2 pillows as I am used to stiffer pillows. The twin bed in the connecting room has better support and is not as soft as the king-size bed so I guess it differs from room to room

The bathroom is also very spacious and brightly lit with a full-sized bathtub occupying one side of the room and another standing shower cubicle at the other side of the bathroom. Just like the room, you can tell the age of the furnishings in the bathroom but they are all in good working condition and kept clean. Basic amenities were provided and changed daily

From the entrance, there is a huge wardrobe and bar counter area where amenities like cups, glasses, instant coffee and tea are provided together with an electric kettle. The counter also comes with a mini bar fridge which is empty and not very cold for ice cream but enough to keep your beverages chilled

The room faces the back view of the neighbouring private residences and in the day, you get a clear view of the swimming pool of the residence and at night you can catch a view of the Petronas Twin Towers lit up which is quite a nice night view. However, for privacy, it is recommended to keep the day curtains pulled as the proximity to the next building is quite close

As we arrived around noon time and had to wait for check-in, we had the chance to try their in-house cafe in the hotel lobby. We decided to eat at the lobby as my parents were too tired to venture out for cheaper nice food. First of all, the service at the cafe was really slow and they took more than 30mins to serve simple sandwiches. The food was also mediocre and expensive with only the chicken wings tasting better than the rest of the item. In comparison, the Western selections were definitely better than the local delights as the curry noodle we ordered was really quite bad

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the Grand Millenium Kuala Lumpur as it was really convenient for me to buy food and drinks from the Pavillion Mall next door or even Lot 10 Mall as they were all within 5 mins walking distance. The staff were generally friendly, helpful and caring as I was travelling with 2 old people with wheelchairs and they never fail to assist me in loading the wheelchairs on and off the vehicles when we were going out or coming back. The only downside for the hotel is the dated furnishings and the slow room make-up as I believe the room change staff department is greatly short-staffed since they have so many rooms. I will definitely choose to stay here again just for the location
