It has been some time since I last visited Bintan although it is one of Singaporean’s favourite weekend destinations 60mins away by ferry. Most of Bintan’s accommodations are either a beach or golf resorts so it is not really a destination I will often visit since I am more of a shop-and-eat traveller

Most of my Bintan trips are retreats with my company and this time round, we visited the Grand Lagoi which is located at the heart of Lagoi Bay; the more rustic and quiet side of Bintan island. At first glance, the Grand Lagoi is huge and grand and looks rather new even though it has been around for more than 5 years

The driveway drop-off point of the hotel was quite majestic with a tall canopy and full ceiling-to-floor glass panels for the front lobby

The check-in lobby itself was huge and spacious which is well catered for big groups of guests doing group check-in at the same time. While the lobby is huge and filled with seating areas, the counter was only serviced by 2 staff so the process was not very fast
Regarding facilities, the hotel has a swimming pool on the rooftop which has a pretty view, especially during sunset. There is also a rooftop restaurant on the same floor which caters for barbeque dinners with both indoor and outdoor tables. There is also an in-house massage place and table tennis table. There are also some activities like archery and sea sports located about 5mins walk from the hotel
The size of the room is quite spacious for a twin room and there is an additional lounging sofa right next to the window. The view from the room was facing the empty field right in front of the hotel. The wardrobe by the door was of decent size for 2 people with a mirror at the bar area where a mini fridge, kettle, tea cups, coffee and tea and mineral water are provided. The bed is semi-hard and not too soft but the pillows were too soft and flat for me

The bathroom size is also decent with half of the space sectioned out with glass doors for the standing shower area so the other parts of the bathroom do not get wet from showering. Fresh clean towels are provided but you can tell they are quite dated as some part of the towels has permanent stains and the material is quite bare so the towels can be on the rough side
Breakfast was included in the room rate and is available at the restaurant at level 3. The offerings were quite substantial with local delights like fried noodles and rice and some continental selections like grilled chicken sausages and chicken ham, toasts and cakes

There is also a live egg station where you can get eggs cooked to your preference, a live noodles station serving mee soto as well as a porridge station. The flavours of the local delights are definitely more on point but the food is generally cold and not warm enough except for the items from the live stations. The quality is general with nothing too fancy but enough for a filling breakfast
Overall, it is a relaxing stay at Grand Lagoi and the rooms are spacious and clean although not the most premium experience. The staff we met on-site is generally very friendly and helpful
