Krit Thai residence

Bangkok is one of the cities which is packed with hotels, especially along the main tourist stretch so you will be spoilt for choices looking for a cheap yet comfortable hotel. If you have a budget of above SGD 200 and above, you are able to get a pretty good room in any of the new 4-star hotels but as we wanted to cap our spending to below SGD 150 per night, it took me quite a while to find this gem

There are many hotels which are very affordable but the location might not be as fantastic as the hotel I booked. I really think they are a gem with the room rates, location and condition of their rooms. Located just beside the National Station BTS station, Krit Thai Residence is located in an old building which has been partially renovated so the outside might look like an old establishment, the interiors are fairly updated

The carpark is on the ground floor street level and can be accessed from the side alley of the building. There are limited lots so if you are driving, you will need to inform the staff upon booking the room. The check-in lobby is located on the 2nd floor which is an elevated floor from the street and can be reached via a flight of steps. The escalator to the BTS station is a stone’s throw away ( less than 50m). For those arriving by foot, it will be easier to get to the lobby via the carpark lifts than the stairs

The lobby is very spacious and brightly lit with a concierge counter and check-in counter with a huge sofa area for guests to sit and wait or just chill. To the left is a small cafe where customers can get their breakfast or some simple beverages. There is also a washroom located at the back of the lobby which is kept clean constantly. There is only 1 lift serving all the floors so it will take some time when using the lift

We booked a double bedroom for the price of SGD 130 and it is very spacious and value for money. There was a large double bed, a sofa which could sleep another person if needed, a desk for working or eating and a huge window. I could see MBK Center from my window and as the building was elevated from the street, the people from the BTS station cannot really look into the room. Regardless, we did keep our curtains drawn most of the time as the proximity of the building to the next building is very close

The room is decorated in white and light wood colour so it was in a minimalistic style which is both clean and simple. All the furnishings were well maintained although the bed was softer than my preference, it did not give me any backaches. From the door, there is an open wardrobe area where you can hang your clothes and also place your luggage

The bathroom is a decent size with the shower incorporated within the bathtub area so you have to climb into the bathtub to shower. While there is a small glass panel to prevent the water from splattering from the shower, the floor does get wet after a shower since the panel only covers the area where the toilet is placed. The floor area will still get some water unless you bath with extreme care and hand-hold the shower head all the time

Basic amenities like toothbrush and toothpaste, comb, shower gel and shampoo are provided. While the overall cleanliness of the bathroom is pretty ok and everything was working well, you can tell that the tiling is slightly dated

Overall, for the price paid for the room, I think Krit Thai Residence is a value-for-money stay and the proximity to all major shopping malls and the BTS station is perfect for anyone who is in Bangkok to shop and eat since the time spent in the room is minimal. I love the fact I can also get back to the hotel and drop off my purchases and head out immediately
