I decided on a last-minute Khao Yai trip last December and went ahead with booking the flights and hotels in just 10 mins. Due to the timing of our flights, we decided to spend 1 night near the airport to get proper rest before travelling by car to Khao Yai

I found Gate 43 Hotel while searching for an airport hotel and with pretty good reviews and decided to book a room here. From the booking websites, the hotel doesn’t seem very far from the airport and the hotel also provides a shuttle for THB 200 per room. When we arrived, the hotel shuttle bus staff was waiting at the arrival hall with a board. You just have to look out for the board with the name of the hotel and the staff will bring you to the shuttle
On the map, the hotel looks really close to the airport but due to the highways and road, the shuttle took about 15 to 20 mins to reach the hotel as they had to turn into many small roads as the hotel is located within a residential block

The hotel spans many different buildings with the pool in the center of the buildings. The check-in lobby is at the main building from the left of the entrance. The lobby feels more like an apartment check-in than a hotel lobby which is more cosy and friendly in my opinion
Both blocks have rooms but we got assigned the room on Blk B just above the restaurant and cafe. I really liked the fact that a security card is needed to access each of the blocks. The lift lobby and corridor are bright and airy and well-maintained as the hotel is relatively new being built in 2020 when travelling was still not back to pre-pandemic times
Our room was huge and spacious with ample space for all our luggage. The room was brightly lit and there is a small shelf where a small fridge, water kettle, bottled water and snacks were placed. There was no wardrobe in the room with the exception of a metal rod and some hangers for your coats or clothes. The TV is placed on a long desk where 1 side can be used for work and the other for eating meals. The bed provided is semi-hard and I found the pillow too flat but I did have a respectable night’s rest
The bathroom was huge with proper elderly and wheelchair aids but there is no curtain or separation between the toilet and the shower so whenever anyone baths, the toilet can get quite wet. Basic toilet amenities like toothbrush, shower gel and shampoo are also provided
We had a nice view from our window facing the small lake just next to the hotel which I felt had the potential to be beautified into a nice resting area. Currently, you can see the lake is next to a small warehousing shack and the pathway is not cleaned up for guests to stroll
Our room rate did not include breakfast so we decided to get their a la carte breakfast available at the cafe which is just next to the swimming pool. The breakfast cost THB 250 per person and comes as a set. There are 3 versions available; the English continental with a fried egg and sausages and toast, the Asian version which is fried rice with a fried egg and also the Thai version which is pork ball porridge. Each set comes with a plate of fresh fruits and the buffet which is a self-help bar serving milk, juices, cereals and bread. Taste-wise, the food is pretty general and provides a nice start for the day. I really liked having breakfast right next to the pool which is very quiet in the morning
Overall, the hotel is clean and basic with a very friendly price tag and is near enough to the airport for people looking to just rest for the night. Do not expect 5-star quality for bedsheets or towels as it is a basic and value-for-money hotel with friendly service
