Sinpopo Brand Restaurant

Cafe hopping might be a thing of the past, hanging out at cafes with friends pigging out on food is still a calorie worth activity. Sinpopo is a retro cafe with strong local Singaporean flavours. This can be seen from both their menu and decor.

The cafe is located around East Coast Road in the white grunge bricks and clean gray and wood furnishings

Right at the entrance, theres a huge cake and tarts counter where you can see the sweet offerings available on a particular day.

The cafe is quite eclectic in their choice of furniture with a mix of scandinavian styled chairs and retro wooden chairs.

There is also a small corner with an old suitcase, records and even a retro metal gate for photo lovers.

The menu features items that are local with a fusion twist as well as western favourites

This lime sour plum drink was extremely thirst quenching with cute rounded ice thats has bits of sour plum embedded in them

Spam fries move aside! This luncheon meat crisp is the bomb. Sliced thinly like parma ham, the luncheon meat is then fried till golden brown and ultimate crispiness that you feel like you are popping potato chips in your mouth until the familiar meaty taste remind you these are made from luncheon

Next was the prawn paste chicken wings which is very decent in the taste department and the skin was also crispy enough

This next dish is a twist on the local Rojak dish which is basically sliced fruits and turnips in peanut and salty prawn paste sauce. Served like a salad, the taste is quite similar to the local Rojak dish

My pork chop was very juicy and nicely seared but personally I found it slightly too tough.

We had our eyes on 2 desserts, which were the gula melaka jelly which was sold out and this durian hitam cake. The cake was soft and fluffy with strong durian flavours from the real durian puree mixed into the fresh cream.

Overall, Sinpopo served very decent food at reasonable prices and has a nice atmosphere to hang out. The service was also good and prompt.
